THE “WHAT?”: Jesus has finished His mission of proclaiming the Kingdom of God and training those who will carry on His work. Then He purposely paid for mankind’s sins with His life on the Cross. As He had declared, “The Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give His life as a ransom for many” (Mark 10:45)
THE “SO WHAT?” Christ’s resurrection has limitless consequences.
1. It confirms everything He said about Himself and about Life. He once challenged His Jewish audience, “Destroy this temple, and I will raise it again in three days” (John 2:19). He declared that “Until “not the smallest letter or one stroke of a letter will pass from the Law until all things are accomplished” (Matt. 5:18, HCSB). Thus, Paul reminds us, “Everyone who trusts in Him (the Lord) will never be put to shame” (Rom. 10:13).
2. Since Christ is risen, Death for the believer is but the Door to his blissful life with Christ in His eternal home. Jesus’ promised: “I am the Resurrection and the Life. He who believes in me will live, even though he dies, and whoever lives and believes in me will never die” (John 11:25-26). Then again He affirmed, “Because I live, you also will live” (John 14:19).
3. Believers can live with Hope and Confidence because their Lord lives and walks with them whatever happens in this life. As Jesus sent His disciples to represent Him in the world, He reassured them, “And remember, I am with you always, to the end of the age” (Matt. 28:20, HCSB).
4. If God is on our side, said Paul, who can be against us? (Rom. 8:32). Nothing would down us permanently. Thus, he concludes, “Therefore, my dear brothers, stand firm. Let nothing move you. Always give yourselves fully to the work of the Lord, because you know that your labor in the Lord is not in vain” (I Cor. 15:58).
